Stance Analysis

STANCE ANALYSIS

Objective Assessment
Personalised Care

At Sidewood Canine Therapy, we're committed to providing the highest standard of rehabilitation using both hands-on clinical skills and the latest technology. That's why we're proud to offer the Companion Stance Analyser – an advanced assessment tool that measures how your dog distributes their weight across all four limbs.

Many dogs are remarkably good at hiding pain or compensating for injury. Long before a limp becomes obvious, they may subtly shift their weight away from an uncomfortable limb. These small changes can be difficult to detect with the naked eye, but the Companion Stance Analyser provides objective, accurate measurements that help us identify potential problems earlier.

Whether your dog is recovering from surgery, living with   arthritis, returning to sport or simply becoming less

mobile with age, stance analysis gives us valuable

information to support the best possible

treatment plan.

Why is Stance Analysis Important?

A hands-on assessment remains an essential part of every consultation,

but objective measurements allow us to see beyond what is visible.

Using the Companion Stance Analyser, we can:

Detect subtle weight-bearing changes before they become obvious.

Monitor recovery following injury or orthopaedic surgery.

Track your dog's progress throughout rehabilitation.

Assess the effectiveness of massage therapy and rehabilitation programmes.

Support performance and conditioning in sporting and working dogs.

Provide objective evidence to help guide treatment decisions.

                                                  Track Your Dog's  Progress

One of the greatest advantages of stance analysis is the ability to compare results over time.

Rather than relying solely on observation, we can measure your dog's progress objectively. This allows us to see whether they are loading their limbs more evenly, monitor improvements throughout rehabilitation and identify when treatment plans may need adjusting.

Objective data helps ensure every decision is based on measurable results, giving you confidence that your dog is moving in the right direction.

Clear, Easy-to-Understand Reports

Following your assessment, you'll receive a clear, colour-coded report showing exactly how your dog is distributing their weight.

These reports make it easy to understand your dog's current condition, monitor improvements over time and see the positive impact of their rehabilitation programme. They also provide a valuable record that can be shared with your veterinary surgeon if required.

Who Can Benefit?

Stance analysis is suitable for dogs of all ages and activity levels, including those with:

  • Arthritis and age-related mobility changes
  • Hip and elbow dysplasia
  • Cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injuries
  • Dogs recovering from TPLO or other orthopaedic surgery
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Neurological conditions
  • Sporting and working dogs
  • Dogs undergoing rehabilitation or performance conditioning

It can also be used as a baseline assessment, helping to identify subtle changes before clinical signs become apparent.

                                 A Complete Rehabilitation Approach

Combined with Clinical Canine Massage Therapy, movement assessment and, soon, hydrotherapy, the Companion Stance Analyser allows us to build a complete picture of your dog's mobility and monitor their progress with confidence.

Stance analysis is included as part of every initial Clinical Canine Massage assessment and is repeated at regular intervals throughout your dog's treatment programme, allowing us to objectively measure their progress and adapt their rehabilitation plan where necessary.

However, you don't need to book a massage appointment to benefit from this advanced technology. If you'd simply like to monitor your dog's weight distribution, we also offer individual Stance Analysis assessments for just £10. This is an excellent option for sporting and working dogs, helping to identify subtle weight-bearing changes or asymmetries before they develop into injuries or affect performance.
